Congratulations on being our featured artist for the Digital Flow Origins Pack. Please introduce yourself to the fans.
Gianluigi Di Giacomo
Thanks Chandler
My name is Gianluigi Di Giacomo, I come from Bari (Italy) and I work on commercial art for two years now.
I have a strong passion for this world, and this encourages me to improve day by day, although to be honest, in my area (southern Italy), the sector graph is considered quite low.
In my work in advertising, I try to be minimal, basic, direct,
while in my personal work, I love the details, and they care so meticulous;
but in the end what counts for me is to express and communicate.
Chandler Johnson
Your work is outstanding. How surprised were you when you found out you’d be the featured artist?
Gianluigi Di Giacomo
I was really surprised, and honestly I did not expect
because it was my first show here in digital flow, and there are many talented artists
Surely this is a stimulus for further improvement and a considerable honors
Chandler Johnson
What are some of your favorite pieces featured in Digital Flow’s 8th release?
Gianluigi Di Giacomo
good question ... there are a lot of really interesting and well made pieces,
But some are really fantastic
as: "We Will Never Answer Where We Came From" by Powers and "Void" by Zerj.
I have to congratulate to all the other Italian artists of Digital Flow, as sinapsy, human, Sohn, easyway, Matt and Luca Galvani, they were also great
Chandler Johnson
Many artists have a ritual or creative process they undertake, especially under specific themes. Could you explain to us how you went through the task of making your fantastic works relate to Origins?
Gianluigi Di Giacomo
the creative process, in my case, never a linear, I let myself be inspired by what surrounds me, photos, documents, books, news, exhibitions and so on.
For example, remember the Roots was born thanks to an encounter with an Italian writer, who asked me to make the cover for his novel, speaking precisely the roots of the family, as is inevitably tied to their past, and of how a parallel dimension, the one where you can see from the outside and can be compared with the true experiences without being blinded by the emotions of the moment
Chandler Johnson
Your style has a very realistic and painted feel to it. How did you develop such a keen eye for design?
Gianluigi Di Giacomo
I must say thanks to my desire to learn, but a special thanks goes especially to my graphics professor Clemente Francavilla, is that he taught me to treat every detail of my work
Chandler Johnson
At what point did digital art become such a hobby for you?
Gianluigi Di Giacomo
Well we say that now has become more of a hobby, one day I'd like to live through graphic design and digital art, though I know it will be very difficult
Chandler Johnson
Finding a passion with art is a journey that all your fellow Digital Flow artists have undergone and can relate to. What would you say to the aspiring young artist who is new to the digital art scene?
Gianluigi Di Giacomo
the advice I can give to those who are facing the digital art scene is always trying to tell themselves through work, and trust in themselves and in their passion.
I think the end is not so much a question of artistic talent, but more about creativity and intelligence, we must be aware of their limits and have something to transmit.
because at the end, art in all its forms, is a way to communicate
Chandler Johnson
Any plans for the future in regards to further developing your already magnificent style?
Gianluigi Di Giacomo
I definitely want to improve the illustration, because I think it's one of my flaws
Chandler Johnson
As I said earlier your style has a very painted feel to it. What are some things you would recommend as inspiration to other artists? Any favorite painter(s)?
Gianluigi Di Giacomo
Well, say I love especially the period of the artistic avant-garde of the early 900, I feel it very close, and then have the years of the Bauhaus, abstract art, Mondrian, Kandinsky, futurists artist, Marinetti ,Fontana et, so the years when modern design was born, I think all these movements are a great inspiration for any creative.
Artists like deuchamp in those years, have shown how art could be completely cleared and led to a higher level, where the concept overcomes the technical end in itself.
I recommend to all young people in search of inspiration not to stop, therefore, only the usual names like Dali, Warhol and Picasso, but had always wanted to discover and learn…and no, I have a favorite painter in particular, I should mention too many
Chandler Johnson
The world of digital art is always expanding. Where do you see yourself in 5 years with the digital art scene?
Gianluigi Di Giacomo
wow ... well to be honest I really cannot imagine I could be reached in 5 years, I hope where I want to be
Chandler Johnson
You contributed four pieces to Origins this time around. Can we expect a repeat?
Gianluigi Di Giacomo
if my computer does not explode, I really think you can count on me, I'm a pretty productive
Chandler Johnson
Well I have to congratulate you on the feature. Thanks for taking the time out for the interview along with your amazing contributions to Digital Flow.
