Could you please tell us about yourself?
Dyst Winterson
Dyst is a young male living in West Point, Virginia. I plan on being a creative director (of course I would start out as a graphics designer) and will be attending an art school for illustration & design this year.
Kofi Ansah
What made you join DigitalFlow?
Dyst Winterson
I really like the laid back atmosphere. I think it's better for everyone to be focusing on the artwork and enjoy what they do together. I think DigitalFlow fits this bill quite well so I enjoy partaking in the activity here.
Kofi Ansah
How long have you been designing for and what motivated you to start in the first place?
Dyst Winterson
I have been seriously indulged in designing for a year or so, before that I was more into signature making - which was fun. I started in that because I thought that the small art gave people lots of options, and at the same time wasn't particularly difficult.
Kofi Ansah
How do you feel about this feature?
Dyst Winterson
Great! I'm really glad to be featured here.
Kofi Ansah
You submitted 4 pieces for this pack. Where did you get your inspiration from, and also what inspires you to do what you do in general?
Dyst Winterson
I think that the best inspiration will always be what you see in your life, and how you transmute that into something different. If you draw the inspiration from everything that you see, I think you can yield more powerful and meaningful results. However I have always found hellocolor, NKeo, Aeoll, and Karan Singh to name a few very inspirational.
Aeoll has been a really good friend to me and has always really helped me out with my work, I've been really blessed to have him help me along the way. I'm inspired by my dream to turn what I do into a career, it really excites me to have my work exposed, but at the same time draw inspiration from what moves me alone.
Kofi Ansah
Could you please tell us more about your style, your works seem to be very vibrant, energetic and colorful. How did you reach this level with your style?
Dyst Winterson
I lot of it came down to being experimental. I never really was able to take to good of a look at any tutorials or anything, so I always tried to think "How would I be able to make this?" or "How was that form of shading done?" before I start it. I like to premeditate how things I would go about doing something, and if it doesn't work I think it was a valuable learning experience and try something else.
Kofi Ansah
What advice would you give other people who may be starting to enter into the Design industry, and also people who may look up to you?
Dyst Winterson
Keep trying new things. I don't say this because people think it's "stale" to stick to your guns, but rather the more you know, the more you can put into your formula of work. You can start adding things from different styles, while keeping control, and form a brand new style. Keep a palette of what you know and always be ready to try one of the techniques you know, and you'll be able to create more unique things.
Kofi Ansah
How do you feel as an Artist and as a member of DigitalFlow?
Dyst Winterson
Good. Most of the people here are really good people, and the administration is friendly. It's pleasant to have a laid back, but equally artistically astute group to hang out in.
Kofi Ansah
What would you personally say to the public if you were to give your person experience or thoughts about DigitalFlow?
Dyst Winterson
Probably what I said above - it's been a real chill, easy experience and it's been really fun to make work for DigitalFlow.
Kofi Ansah
What do you see yourself doing or becoming in 5-10 years time?
Dyst Winterson
I'd love to be a creative director by then, but I may still be a bit too young. I'd like to see myself contributing to an agency, giving myself a good name, and being able to live a good, healthy life.
Kofi Ansah
Anything else you would liek the public to know?
Dyst Winterson
Not really, hope everyone enjoys the pack we've put together for you - I think it's a really good one.
